Feel free to provide your thoughts, any images you may have, or your ideas for the future of the stack. I know opinions vary on the future of the stack and I would not expect to change a majority of people's minds should they already support NRGs decision for demolition. However, I hope everyone took quick a chance to look around the site with an open mind regardless of opinion. Maybe check out the Worldwide Chimney Preservation tab for some examples of how similar landmarks have been transformed. No matter what you think, thanks for visiting! The picture above is from a laser presentation on the smoke stack that took place on December 20, 2019.

AuthorI'm Jay Shafer and have lived in Carlsbad for my entire childhood and again after two years acquiring an art history and history major at university. Now a teacher, with a love of architecture. I am teaming up with Jim Strickland to try to save this symbol of Carlsbad. Jim has taken the front line gathering endless material on civic codes and historical preservation necessities that demonstrate the city's obligation to give its citizens a chance to re-purpose the skyline we have come to know. Yet, in countless meetings the multi-billion dollar conglomerate NRG taken the decision to begin tearing down the plant by April 2020 and left Jim needing our help to artistically beautify the skyline icon of Carlsbad into a historically significant city landmark we can be proud of!
